Captain America: The First Avenger is the Marvel Studios film that is the fifth installment in the MCU directed by Joe Johnston and released in 2011. This is one of the best films on Phase One and it is in my Top 10 out of all 23 MCU films as it is just a perfect film to kick off the Captain America franchise.
The film stars Chris Evans as Captain America and being the hero he gave it a lot of heart, his chemistry with the cast was great as well. Evans owns the role of Captain America. He has great chemistry with everyone from being friends, romantic interest, and enemies. He is just patriotic in the role. The film also stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Dominic Cooper as a young Howard Stark, Tommy Lee Jones, and Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull who was great. He plays villains wonderfully. Cooper as a young Stark was great as there are plenty of similarities between him and Tony which was great to see in the film.
The film is about Steve Rogers who is transformed into the super-soldier Captain America must stop the Red Skull is wanting world domination as he is using the Tesseract. This is probably the best origin story in the MCU as it is about this man who isn't the strongest, isn't the biggest, becoming the First Avenger, and being this hero that many look up to. The film does have great action scenes that are just patriotic. It has a great score that fits the era too. But what is unique about this film is that it is set in WW2 and not in present times like the previous four films were.
A minor flaw is that I wish there was more time showing off their missions instead of a montage, which was still pretty epic.
Overall this film is probably my favorite one or one of my favorites from Phase One. It's definitely in the Top 2. This was a great Marvel film that introduced this great iconic character into this big Marvel film universe.
