Doctor Strange is the Marvel Studios film and the 14th film in the MCU as it is directed by Scott Derrickson and released in 2016. The film introduced a new side in the MCU like Guardians Ant-Man did which will play a big part in the future. This is an underrated MCU film as it is unique.
Benedict Cumberbatch was a fantastic choice to play Doctor Strange. He was cocky, arrogant and that is how the character is. He is the perfect Stephen Strange. The film also stars Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer was good and she had great chemistry with Strange. Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as Karl Mordo, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Mads Mikkelsen as the antagonist Kaecilius who all did great in the film and worked well with Cumberbatch.
The film is about Stephen Strange who is a neurosurgeon injuring his hands and learns the mystic arts learning there is more potential to him. This movie introduces the Mystic Arts side of the MCU and it was a great introduction to Doctor Strange as it teases a lot more. What was amazing in the film was the effects of all the magic and sorcery as it was beautifully done well. The visuals and cinematography were also great as they stood out with all the magical elements too. Strange is an interesting character as he is arrogant, like a certain billionaire playboy philanthropist, and how the film explored him and developed him was perfect as he is powerful and it sets up on how powerful he can be.
This film does have its flaws. I wish there were more scenes that focus on Strange and Christine's relationship. There could have been something to let the viewer know how long Strange has been training for too. Then there's Kaecilius who suffered from the problems that lots of villains in movies suffer from. He was there just to be the bad guy. He could have had a lot more to him as he is portrayed by a great actor.
Overall I loved the film, but wish they could have done more too. This did introduce a new side of the MCU that will be explored more in Phase 4 which I am looking forward to. I can't wait for the sequel.
