Eternals is the Marvel Studios film and the 26th film in the MCU as it is directed by Chloé Zhao and released in 2021. The film was one that got pushed back due to the pandemic but it's finally out and critics seem to be harsh with it? After watching it for myself twice, I can say it's an amazing film as it is different and unique.
The film has a phenomenal cast as it stars Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Namjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Salma Hayek as Ajak. The film also stars Kit Harington as Dane Whitman who was great as all the chaos is happening. Each one of them had their time to shine when they were on screen. The ones who stole the show though was Kingo, Thena, and Phastos. The relationships between some of the characters whether it was from Ikaris and Sersi, Sersi and Dane, Thena and Gilgamesh, Phastos and his husband were all done great as they had great chemistry and the viewer wants to see more.
The film is about the Eternals emerging after thousands of years in hiding to protect the Earth from the Deviants. Probably the best part of the film was that it was visually stunning. The score and the action were also great, especially the Thena fight scenes and Ikaris fight scenes. What was also great was the representation as we see the first gay Marvel superhero, a Bollywood dance sequence, and much more. The lore and everything that is going on it opens a new side of the MCU that makes the viewer invested, but at the same time has many questions to be answered in the future.
The film does have minor flaws. Not as major as critics say it is. But it's a slow film. It's long so they're covering so much within the film but there are the moments that make it feel slow.
Overall I loved the film. It was a fresh new take in the MCU. I have no idea what the critics were thinking at all. I do understand some of the flaws, but the worst MCU film? Yeah no. I definitely recommend it.
