Hawkeye is the newest MCU Disney+ series as it was directed by Rhys Thomas and Bert & Bertie throughout the season as it was released for the 2021 holiday season. Originally supposed to be a movie at one point, it was eventually made a series and it worked great as it shows off more Hawkeye.
Jeremy Renner returns as Hawkeye as is great as the character. While it's different there are some similarities to his comic counterpart throughout the season as we see him deaf now and dealing with his past. He is joined by Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop who is amazing throughout the series. She definitely steals the show as she is her character right out of the comics. We also see Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez and Florence Pugh returning as Yelena Belova who were great additions as Yelena also steals the show and sets Maya Lopez up for her own series Echo. The season also includes Vera Farmiga, Tom Dalton, Fra Fee, Linda Cardellini, and Vincent D'Onofrio returning as Kingpin from Daredevil. Each of the characters does amazing in their roles, especially D'Onofrio as it definitely felt like a continuation of his character from Daredevil.
The season is about Clint Barton being mixed up in some stuff with Kate Bishop as his Ronin days are coming back to haunt him, so the two must team up as he tries to get home before Christmas. The season is heavily inspired by the Matt Fraction comic run which is heavily noticeable. There's fun bow and arrow action, fun moments with the characters, especially Kate and Yelena. It's action-packed for sure. The definitely sets up for more as it can be a gateway into reintroducing the street heroes that show got canceled.
There are flaws with the series though. The series features forgettable subplots that really felt like it didn't pay anything off in the end like the watch. Also, something felt like it was missing from the series. It felt like more was expected from the series.
Overall, it was a fun series. I felt it made fans like Hawkeye even more. I definitely hope this gets a second season, or at least a spin-off focusing on Kate. I do recommend it.
