Iron Man is a Marvel film directed by Jon Favreau that was released in 2008. This was the first film that kicked off the MCU. I remember watching it I was 8 years old and rewatching it now that I am in my 20s it still holds up as being one of the best superhero films.
Robert Downey Jr. is just amazing. He has amazing chemistry with everyone. After this, it's hard to see anyone else as Iron Man. He is amazing as Tony Stark. It starts off his arc that we see for 10 years after this. Gweneth Paltrow did great with Pepper Pots. Her chemistry with RDJ is just amazing. Jeff Bridges did a great job in the role and was a great villain, but I wish there were more of him. Terrance Howard did great as Rhodey. Each of the character's interactions with Tony was just great and possibly the best parts of the film.
The story is about Tony Stark who basically gets a second chance and becomes Iron Man. The way it was done perfectly as the film had a lot of heart and meaning. The humor worked in this film as it felt natural, especially coming from RDJ. The action in the film was great as Iron Man is a badass. The best part was the ending, it was just great and unique and stands out from previous superhero films, and superhero films now.
One thing I was mixed with was the decision of what they did with the antagonist Obadiah Shane. He had a lot of potential to be memorable as he had a great actor playing him, but he became a comic book cliche where the villain gets killed in their first appearance.
Overall, this film is just amazing. It's interesting how it launched the MCU without the audience knowing they were setting it up at the time. It also ages well. It's also interesting to see that this film influenced plenty of comic book films. It is still great to this day.
